To our many website visitors and the people who played the name the foal contest, WE sincerely apologize for the length of time it has taken us to post the results. But for unforeseen circumstances it happened. The results follow. Thank-you for your patience.

This contest is meant to be fun, designed to promote horse racing and to let the fans participate in the sport by hopefully naming a future star of racing. If you do not agree with the terms and conditions of this contest please do not enter.

We had3 foals for our 2004 contest, all three are by Leckbee Thoroughbred's stallion Raisor's Edge. The rules changed this year. We only accepted one entry per person but on each entry form everyone got a chance to name all 3 foals so they had 3 chances to win. For Prizes we collected horse racing memorabilia, the winners will get their choice of the prizes, then second place will choose, followed by the third place winner. Deadline for submissions was July 30, 2004. Relatives of Hammersmith Hill Thoroughbreds (Carol Krause and Tammy Brewer) are not eligible to enter this contest. Naming the Foals

Until the foals are given their own name the foal is known by his parents. The first name is the sires name (sire meaning father, sometimes called the stallion). The second name is his dams name (dam meaning mother). The X stands for the cross of mating the mother and father. 2003 stands for the year that she was born, and the word filly means she is a girl.

Naming these foals (babies) is getting more and more difficult every year because there are so many of them and none of them are allowed to have the same name. In order to be a Thoroughbred race horse they must be officially registered with the Jockey club. The Jockey Club keeps track of everything each horse does involving racing and breeding and each time it goes through a sale.

The Jockey club also keep on record each horse's DNA so every time a dam and sire are mated the foal is tested to be sure that its DNA matches that of its parents.

Its markings are recorded (markings meaning any white or dark spots, cowlicks, strange swirls of hairs that never change as long as the horse lives). Each horse has its own unique individual markings which helps identify each horse to be sure that he is who someone says he is.

This Contest follows the Jockey Club Naming Rules

All entries must be of good taste that will do credit to the horse and the farm.
All entries will be checked with the Jockey Club for prior use (If you have the ability to go online and check the names list yourself before submitting your entry please do so).

While every effort will be made to check availability of the names at the time of the drawing there is no guarantee that the name will still be available at time of registration.

Contest Rules

Both Children and Adults are eligible to enter this contest.
ONLY ONE ENTRY PER PERSON, however each entry includes three chances to win.
Children under age of 18 must provide permission from parents.
Relatives of Hammersmith Hill Thoroughbreds are not eligible (Tammy Brewer's and Carol Krause's relatives).
All entries must be submitted by midnight July 30th, 2004.
All entry names will be checked for availability and content.
Those entry names that are unavailable, or of improper content, will be discarded.
Of the remaining entries, 10 names for each foal will be chosen that we feel would be the best name for the colt.
Each set of ten names will go in the final drawing but one entry per person can advance in the final drawing
A panel of 4 people will chose the names.

Final Drawing

The names will be placed in a hat and three will be drawn. The first to be drawn will be the third place winner and continue until the third is drawn which will be the first place winner. The winner of this contest is the third name to be drawn.

While we will make every effort to get this name for the colt, the Jockey Club has the final say on the choice of name, so we cannot guarantee that this is the name the colt will get. If the winning name is rejected by the Jockey Club the second place name will be submitted and so on.

However, due to the length of time between this contest and the actual registration, the placings of this contest shall not change. Also keep in mind that when this colt is sold the new owners may choose to change the name. However, when this colt is sold we will inform the new owner of this contest and ask that they not change the name.

Again, if you do not accept the rules or conditions of this contest please do not enter.

Contest Prizes

We are still in the process of collecting prizes for the contest, they will be divided into 3 similar groups for each foal. The winner will get first pick of the prizes, then second place and finally third. They currently include Breyer Horse models of racing greats such as Seattle Slew, Cigar and Secretariat as well as Smarty Jones Hats and gift certificates from Thoroughbreds Only.
